Letter from the president

Letter from the President, Mr. Jean-Marie Joly

Dear Friends,

This year is an important one for our foundation. Seeking to remain faithful to the teaching of the Catholic Church, we have decided to make a concrete response to the call of the Holy Father in his two encyclicals Deus Caritas Est and Caritas in Veritate.

Love of God, love of our brothers and sisters inspires our direction and manner of pursuing "development done differently." In our programs every human being is treated as a unique person created by God, with love and tenderness. All human beings, all the men and women with whom we work, are invited to testify to this Love of God, to discover and increase their talents in the service of the Common Good.

Our vocation is to disseminate the gifts received from Christ: Peace, Faith, Hope and Love. It is to this mission we have been called. Through our witness we hope that our non- Christian may say of our Christian communities "see how they love one another!" The Roman elite were intrigued by early Christians who did not seek power; but instead served one another, washing one another's feet even as Christ had done with his disciples. Love can annihilate violence, shatter the carapace of indifference and egotism by opening one to Otherness; drawing us nearer that horizon of convergence toward which we are called to live in the Truth.

In those parts of the world where Christians are victims of secularization and obsessive consumerism, where they live in a political and economic environment in which apostasy is applauded, where they are immersed in cultures that increasingly repudiate our Judeo-Christian heritage, we must act as attentive watchmen and sources of Hope. We do not have the right to resign our commission, to desert. We must fully live and announce the Gospel. The old continent and America have become mission territories. It is now to the point that as Catholic Christians we are in the minority. This perhaps a grace: an opportunity for us to once again be the Salt of the Earth and Light of the World!

In the many countries in which Christian minorities experience discrimination, hatred, isolation, great suffering and maltreatment, our mission is to accompany families and communities in order to aid and protect them. Alongside those organizations within the Church charged with formation of priests and the construction of churches and formation of local parishes - those organizations that endeavor to promote pastoral life - we work with indigenous Christian communities. We catalyze and strengthen local organizations and initiatives, that the local Church will flourish not simply survive.

Thank you in advance for your generosity. Know that you remain in the prayers of our community,All for the greater glory of God
